Blogging for the Personal Touch (and to Rank!)

When it comes to adding a personal and unique touch to a website there is no better way than blogging. A blog (also called a weblog or web log) is basically an online journal consisting of article entries relating to your interests, passions and/or business and industry. Setting up a blog on your website is one of the best ways to demonstrate to your readers (and potential customers) that you are an authority on your subject matter. It cannot be underestimated how useful, for all different reasons, a blog can be. A blog is crucial to your website for multiple reasons.

Reasons for Blogging

Promotion

It’s a relatively easy, ongoing way to promote your business, industry, product or service. In talking about these aspects you are promoting to your readers what you do and attracting an audience who will return if you update the blog on a continual basis. Blogging regularly with valuable content can improve your website’s search engine optimization (SEO). It attracts organic traffic from search engines, increasing your website’s visibility. Blogs are an excellent medium for educating and informing your audience. You can create informative articles, guides, tutorials, and how-to posts to help readers learn and solve problems. Through skillful use of a blog you can begin to subtly introduce your own products or service as a solution to the readers problem or needs.

Authority

This leads on to authority. Readers will begin to recognise you are an authority on a subject if the blog articles are informative and well written. They will keep returning to your website if your informative blog is updated with enagaging articles on a continual basis. Blogs are an excellent medium for educating and informing your audience. You can create informative articles, guides, tutorials, and how-to posts to help readers learn and solve problems. They provide a platform to share your knowledge and expertise on a particular subject. Whether you’re passionate about a hobby, industry, or profession, a blog allows you to establish yourself as an authority in that field.

Engage

Readers will engage with you if the articles are informative; or provide solutions to questions or problems. For example, if the blog is on an ecommerce website this may lead to engagement and increased sales. Promoting your business by providing solutions within the articles may lead to increased contact and phone calls. Blogging enables you to connect with like-minded individuals who share your interests or values. It fosters a sense of community and can lead to meaningful relationships and collaborations.

Comments

Carrying on from enagagement with the reader leads to direct interaction. You  can set your blog articles to receive comments from readers. This leads on from engagement as readers actually react, or respond, to your blog articles. You will be surprised who will reach out to you if they identify (or not!) with your musings. 99{5d54fc402f968aefe051b0ef91e5a1a27350b09196398f4f5ca8a4a23eb59b5a} of interaction is good and enagement can be beneficial to both parties. It is now widley accepted Google likes to see interaction on a website and conversations. Social interaction on a website is a strong positive signal to Google which will reflect in the ranking of that website. In other words enage with your readers if you want to increase your ranking in Google.

Be Different

Blogging is open ended. You have a worldwide platform to say anything, this freedom of course comes with responsibility. However you can be imaginitive and write content that will raise eyebrows. Interesting, colourful content that readers will remember and come back to. Be creative. Stand out from the crowd. Tell a personal story.

Be Yourself

Writing articles for your blog means you get your thoughts down in writing. This is a great ‘cognitive’ process. This cognitive process is ideal for articulating and organising your thoughts making you think about what you want to say to the viewer (or customer). And because it is written you can go back and see what has been written over time. You maybe surprised how your otlook changes over time. Overall blogging is a never-ending process of articulating the most meaningful events and the most important thoughts. ‘Events’ and ‘thoughts’ could be translated to your ‘business’ and ‘industry’. Successful blogging can even give you more confidence. The golden rule of blogging is be yourself. Write about what interests you in a personal and enagaging way whether for yourself or your business. Blogging makes you think what’s important to you (and/or your business).

Images

An image is something everyone can relate to. We now live in a very visual world (Pininterest, Instagram, YouTube). Photos of finished products or services will be of great value. For example, in an Ecommerce site, 67% of consumers say the quality of a product image is ‘very important’ in selecting and purchasing a product.

Please note taking images off Google may mean you’re breaking copyright laws. Why not take you’re own quailty photographs? Which again will give your blog a personal touch.

Vlogging

Bloggers that use video, in a useful manner, have a better chance of attracting a large audience and differtiating themselves from competitors. Why not create a video series explaining how to something or showing work in progress. Again, aiming to provide answeres to questions the viewer may have. This is what I started with and this is the end result mentality. A video can visually explain how to solve a problem. Here is my product/service and I’ll show you how to solve your problem in the video (series). It’s worth noting video on a website is another strong signal to Google you are engaging with your audience. The Google algorithm is putting more and more emphasis on video content. In other words video will help with your SEO.

SEO

As mentioned blogging greatly helps with your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). It cannot be stressed enough that search engines love new informative content especially when it enagages with people. There is no better way to achieve this than through a continually updated blog. A blog creates a place to talk about new products or services, comment on timely news events or trends in the market place, and share new company information within your website.

Inspiring

If your blog takes off and you become a source of inspiration your blog may become the website and your job. They’re countless stories of people becoming famous through their blogs. Hundreds of followers turn to thousands and then to millions. These bloggers are leaders in their chosen fields almost becoming ‘blogging gods’ who don’t talk about tends but set them! These trend setters determine the trends and can make a lot of money through marketing for big brand names through their blogs. For example, this can primarily seen in fashion, style and design where top bloggers can earn millions through collaborating with big names.
