What is the Website Design Cost, What's Your Website Price?

This is a question I’m asked many times, what is the website cost? This is a fair question to ask but tough to answer until I’ve spoken with you and understood exactly what you’re after. Understanding the type of website, the actual requirements, size of site, functionality needed, image requirements and copywriting needed all play a role in determining website cost. Below I outline why you actually need a website, the process involved and website cost in more detail. However please feel free to get in touch outlining what you need. Sixmile will tailor a solution that best fits your brand and your budget!

Why Do I Need a Website Anyway?

  • Online Presence: If you or your business wants to establish a digital presence, a website is one of the most effective ways to do so. It serves as a central hub where people can find information about you or your products/services.
  • Credibility: Having a professional website can enhance your credibility. Many customers and clients expect businesses to have an online presence, and a well-designed website, with branding, can instill trust and credability.
  • Information Hub: A website can serve as an information hub where you can provide detailed information about your products, services, contact details, and frequently asked questions.
  • Ecommerce: If you’re selling products or services, an Ecommerce website can be essential for reaching a wider audience and processing online transactions.
  • Blogging or Content Sharing: If you want to share your thoughts, expertise, or content regularly, a website with a blog can be a great platform for publishing and connecting with your audience.
  • Portfolio: For artists, photographers, designers, or anyone who wants to showcase their work, a website can serve as a portfolio to display your creations.
  • Online Marketing: A website is an anchor for online marketing efforts. You can use it as a landing page for online ads, email marketing campaigns, and social media promotions.
  • Control: With a website, you have full control over your online presence. You’re not dependent on third-party platforms, which can change their rules or algorithms at any time.
  • Analytics: Websites allow you to gather valuable data about your visitors, such as demographics, behaviour, and preferences. This data can help you refine your strategies.
  • Customization: A website can be tailored to your specific needs and branding. This level of customization is often not possible on social media or other platforms.

Pricing a Website Design

  • 1 Page Website Design: Creating a one-page web design can be a great option for showcasing a simple product or service, personal portfolio, event, or any content that doesn’t require a complex website structure. hese are a very good way of ‘funnelling’ the user to a particular call to action or decision such as a sign-up, register or a contact form. A one-page site could also be refered to as a ‘landing page’. Expect to pay €300 – €400
  • Multi-page Brochure Websites: Multi-page websites are the most common small business websites that we see to showcase the services of a company. These include a small number of main pages such as ‘home’, ‘about’, ‘services’ ‘news’ ‘Q&A’ ‘contact’. These pages collectively provide essential information to both potential and existing customers. They help establish credibility, showcase offerings, answer questions, and promote communication. A well-designed, eye-catching and informative multi-page website can significantly benefit small businesses, in particular, by expanding their reach and serving as a valuable resource for customers. Pricing starts at €900.
  • Gallery Websites: Creating a gallery website allows you to showcase images, artwork, or photographs in an organized and visually appealing manner. A gallery website can serve as a powerful tool to showcase your work, connect with art enthusiasts, and potentially sell your artwork or services. Remember to regularly update and promote your gallery to reach a broader audience and engage with your visitors.
  • Ecommerce: Creating an Ecommerce website allows you to sell products or services online, manage inventory, process payments, and provide a seamless shopping experience for your customers. Building and maintaining an Ecommerce website requires ongoing effort, but it can be a rewarding platform for selling products or services and growing your business online.

Why Pricing a Website Can Be Tough

As you can see above there are so many different types of websites, not to mention functionality. This makes it very difficult to price a site without knowing, in some detail, the requirements, complexity and functionality involved. And if any custom development is needed.

To get an accurate estimate, it’s essential to discuss your specific needs with the web developer. The developer can then provide quotes based on your requirements and help you understand the trade-offs between features, design, and cost. Keep in mind that cheaper options may not always provide the quality or functionality you need, so it’s crucial to strike the right balance between your budget and your
project’s goals.

It’s also important to understand once a website is live it’s not a good idea to leave it and walk away. A good, efficient site will be undated on a continual basis with new and up-to-date information as well as periodic website maintenance. Keeping a site updated and adding information will help it grow to become a great online resource that people (customers) will visit for information, leading to service enquiries and service or product purchases. You will become an authority and what you do and people will want to do business with you.

The Website Design Process

The process involves listening first. I offer a free consultation where we go through your business, what it represents to you and to your target audience, what you need in the website and whether any logo design and branding is also needed. Domain and Hosting of the website will also be discussed.

After the initial meeting the website build is started, designing and building the website based on your requirements. As this is done an ‘Under Construction’ page goes up. Once I have your IP address (this is easy to find) I can give you access to view the site as its built.

It’s also advisable to look at the competition and see what they’re doing. This is advatageous for many reasons including understanding what works and what doesn’t, seeing how improvements can be made reverse engineering and improving on what they’ve done.

This where you can advise on alterations and critique the site as it’s built. It’s also very important I receive text from yourself regarding information to go on the website.

On page Search Engine Optimisation work is also undertaken nearing completion of the build. This involves ‘behind the scenes’ technical work to help Google and other search engines find and list the site. Once you are happy with the website the Under constructiion page is taken down and the site goes live.

Information To Go Up On the Site

  • Please provide written text on your company, services offered, case studies/recent projects. The more detailed text the better. There will be a page dedicated to each service you provide. Any unique services you offer please write about. The more relevant and detailed text on the site the better. The aim is to build an impressive resource about your company and the services it offers.
  • When writing the text think about what your clients are looking (Residential and Commercial). Even if it’s just a couple of paragraphs it will get the ball rolling. Answer any questions the customer may have.
  • Sixmile Design provides a copy writing service. Writing effective copy for a website is crucial for engaging visitors, conveying your message, and achieving your website’s goals. A good copywriter will also be aware of what is needed regarding SEO.
  • Remember a website can grow over time, further services/case studies and pages can be added later (great for SEO). This is a service (website updates) I provide for many of my clients. I charge between €60 – €80 per page depending on content and what’s provided. System software (website maintenance) can also be updated at the same time as the updates are made.
  • Also provide any photography or video you have, especially of past projects. Unique quality photography is far better than stock photography.
  • You can view the site as it’s built and give ongoing feedback. The site can be altered and updated on the fly as it’s built.
